As a cost saving mechanism, many of our competitors have elected to use P/T Hemlock in their panels; however Surrey Cedar is not prepared to sacrifice the quality of our high grade panels for lowered costs. Grade Of Panel

All grades of panels are made using the same quality workmanship. The difference in grade reflects on the quality of wood used within the panel and not the actual construction quality of the panel. There are three wood grades to choose from.

Number 1 Grade - Referred to as Premium panels. They should be 100 % Tight Knot panels, (i.e. No-Hole). The lumber used to manufacture these panels is a number 1 grade and the quality of the wood is reflected in the quality of the panels. These panels are generally used in show homes and newer homes as the extra cost is justified given the investment in the house.

Number 2 Grade - Referred to as Builders Grade Fence Panels. These panels are majority tight. This means that there can be some small holes and a small amount of dry rot and wane on the 2x4's. Given the relatively high quality of these panels and the large price savings, these are generally our best selling fence panels.

Number 3 Grade - Referred to as utility grade panels. Although these panels are built with the same quality workmanship as the #1 and #2 grades, they are constructed using lower quality material. At this grade, wood with big knotholes and/or rot is acceptable.
